I was able to visit with Gary a couple of weeks ago....I hadn't seen him for quite awhile, and was unsure of what reception I would receive. For those who don't know, Gary lived with drug induced sczophrenia since his early 20's. I would have been understanding if he had been bitter and angry - but to my delight, he was kind and gracious - like the Gary I remember - did my heart good. I love the phrase from our daughter's (Barb Arbuckle Sammons) post: . "His artistic, kind and funny mind is now restored and the brokenness of his world has not won". Many good memories - and I am grateful....

Mariann, your actions and words are such an inspiration for all of us to live by. Your love in the complicated situation must have been very appreciated by Gary in his last days, and his response to you a comfort. Your daughters words reflect her mother's example.  😘
